Workshop on Oman’s Experience in the Mutual Evaluation Process of Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Systems

The National Counter Terrorism Committee participated in a workshop on the Sultanate of Oman's Experience in the mutual evaluation process of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing systems. The workshop was organized by the National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing during the period (20 – 21) May 2025, in Muscat. A number of specialists from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries participated in the workshop. This workshop comes within the framework of joint Gulf cooperation and in implementation of the agreement of the Committee of Governors of Central Banks of the GCC countries regarding the review of Gulf countries’ experiences in the international mutual evaluation process, specifically in presenting the direct outcomes related to assessing the effectiveness of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing systems.

Oman participates in the 40th MENAFATF plenary meeting

The Sultanate of Oman's participated in the 40th plenary meeting of the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF) which was held in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan during the period (4th-8th) May, 2025. A number of relevant topics were discussed during the meeting and a number of recommendations were issued regarding them.

A number of relevant topics were discussed during the meeting and a number of recommendations were issued regarding them.

Designating a number of individuals in the Local List

The Targeted Financial Sanctions Committee has issued a decision on 28th April 2025 to include a number of individuals in the Local List of Sultanate of Oman for their links to terrorism and its financing.

NCTC Participates in the Workshop "Sanction Evasion, Pursuit and Prosecution of Offenders"

The National Counter-Terrorism Committee (NCTC) has participated in a workshop on "Sanction Evasion, Pursuit and Prosecution of Offenders" organized by the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (TFTC) in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain during the period (22nd-23rd) April, 2025. The workshop discussed case studies with the participation of a number of officials and independent experts; in addition to reviewing thematic patterns related to sanctions evasion. The discussions also focused on identifying areas that require improvement to reduce opportunities for bypassing sanctions and enhance effective compliance with domestic and international sanctions.

The National Counter-Terrorism Committee (NCTC) participated in the 16th meeting of the Gulf Committee for the GCC Unified Terrorist List, held during the period (22nd-23rd) April, 2025, at the headquarters of the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Riyadh, where a number of related topics were discussed and a number of recommendations were issued regarding them.

The National Counter-Terrorism Committee represented by The National Center for Financial Information (NCFI) and in coordination with the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (TFTC) conducts a workshop on "Emerging Technologies and Virtual Asset Trends: Patterns and Tools” during the period 26th – 27th February 2025 at Kempinski Hotel, Muscat. The workshop will be attended by a number of specialists from GCC countries and the United States.

Sultanate of Oman and the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism

The Sultanate of Oman has joined the rest of the world in observing the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism (PEV Day), which was adopted by the UN General Assembly Resolution 243/77 designating February 12 of each year as the PEV Day. It aims to raise awareness of threats related to violent extremism and promote international cooperation in this matter. The Sultanate of Oman marks this occasion to reiterate its constant efforts to counter terrorism and violent extremism which leads to terrorism by building a comprehensive legal framework concerned with countering terrorism and terrorist activities and organizations. Additionally, there have been professional and massive efforts at various levels in Oman in this field with cooperation and coordination between various institutions including Oman’s National Counter Terrorism Committee
